Sleep

I slept a miraculous 19 hours after turning in my thesis. I slept from 6 p.m. on March 31, woke up briefly at 10:30 a.m. to decide to skip class, and slept until about 1 p.m. on April 1. Although I missed the deadline for a writing contest, and although it rendered me hazy and incapable of interpersonal interaction, I feel so much better.

I Can Smell Freedom Again

Sanya Sanya Stone Forest

After a few months of being unable to access Vox, it’s good to be back and to settle in to writing here again. ACC is over, and I don’t know if I’m happy or sad. Definitely some of both. Many reasons.

On the 9th (the day after finals), I flew off to Kunming in Yunnan Province. I spent two days there, the first of which was spent going to the Stone Forest, the second spent walking around and seeing what Kunming had to offer. Well, I found out it had nothing. Really. So I booked a flight to Sanya on Hainan island. I spent three marvelous, sun-filled days there lounging on the beach, listening to waves, eating tropical fruits, adventuring, and writing. I had to leave my haven on the eleventh and flew to Nanjing, where I spent two and a half long days with family. I ended up with food poisoning, so you can imagine how I felt. I went back to Beijing on the seventeenth, and enjoyed its random vomit piles and frozen loogies, endless construction, unidentifiable food, and pollution for one more day.

My English is not up to par, this needs to change, pronto. Aside from that, there are a few things I’m not used to yet: waiters/waitresses speaking to you, small talk with other customers in stores, no cutting in line, and no reckless driving, to mention a few

Definitely not my last time in China. I’ll be back soon.
